MVC Contrib becomes the first community-driven open source project to be accepted into The CodePlex Foundation

MVC Contrib joins the ASP.NET Open Source Gallery.

Seattle, Washington – February 17, 2010 – MVC Contrib, an ASP.NET 3.5 (Service Pack 1) library providing extensions for Microsoft's ASP.NET MVC framework, has been added to the ASP.NET Open Source Gallery within The CodePlex Foundation.

In doing so, the toolkit becomes the first community-driven open source project to earn a seat within The CodePlex Foundation, as its development was not funded by a corporation. All of MVC Contrib's peer projects within the foundation were at least partially funded by Microsoft, but MVC Contrib, at the time of its acceptance, is solely the product of open source community involvement, having been built by volunteer contributors.

MVC Contrib was cofounded by Eric Hexter, Headspring's Director of Open Source Software Initiatives and Headspring's CTO, Jeffrey Palermo. The blogs of Eric Hexter and Jeffrey Palermo, at http://www.lostechies.com/blogs/hex/ and http://jeffreypalermo.com/ respectively, offer numerous articles on MVC Contrib. Mr. Hexter affirms "Our investment in MVC Contrib is significant as it is seen as a necessity of any web-based ASP.NET project which Headspring has undertaken since 2008."

Extensions which MVC Contrib offers include inversion of control container controller factories, grid components, view automation helpers, ViewDataExtensions to provide strongly-typed viewdata for objects, test doubles to aid unit testing, and Resharper live templates.
