Situation:
The tool for tracking all software volume licenses maintained by Dell Computer was a decade-old COBOL application known as Tracker. It was desired to have Dell's various sales segments interact with Tracker via a web service API.
The Headspring Solution:
Headspring's consulting determined the best approach would be to create a .NET-based interface dubbed SVL-API (Software Volume License Application Programming Interface) to interact with Tracker's existing database. A separate web application called Nexus was established to exposition SVL-API in action. Both of Headspring's applications were developed utilizing The Agile Framework.
Results:
The Nexus application was slated to be a replacement for Tracker and SVL-API was proven to be a viable gateway for other applications to reach Dell's software volume license data.
